May 2011 - Key info for Year 10
A successful end of season for the Canaries: a series of wins, a wonderful promotion and a respectable draw. (Look at that pattern of three - see what we did there? Oh, and there's a rhetorical question as well . . .)
So let's aim for a successful end of year for Y10: a series of good CATs, a good performance in your early-entry GCSE exams and good results in August!
Key dates:
English
- Weds 25th May - GCSE English mock exam 1.30 pm - 3.30 pm
- Weds 15th June - GCSE English real exam 1.30 pm - 3.30 pm
You'll need:
- At least one black pen;
- At least one highlighter;
- Your brain . . .
You'll be assessed on your skills in:
- Reading, responding to and comparing non-fiction texts
- Writing non-fiction texts appropriate to audience and purpose
Key advice:
- Attend all lessons and focus on completing tasks set to the best of your ability;
- Do your homework;
- Revise the key features of persuasive language;
- Read plenty of non-fiction in your own time . . . think about what's said and how it's presented;
- Take responsibility for your own progress - learn those spellings, go over the punctuation you find tricky, etc;
- Come to English Clinic on Thursdays after school if you would like some extra help, have questions, etc.
