Art

The presence of art plays a very important part in the enrichment of our lives, and certainly our own participation in art and design serves a significant role in our personal development. Many aspects in our daily lives are affected by the work of artists and designers, from the clothes that we wear, to the chair that we sit on, to the graphics introducing our favourite TV programmes. These are all practical examples of how art enters our lives, but painting and sculpture, the less commercial areas of art, add much to the quality of the world that we live in.

What will I do in lessons?

In the art classes you will have the opportunity to experiment and develop skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, graphic design and textiles. You will be asked to keep a sketchbook and you will learn to use it independently, building up a collection of your own observation. You will also research and discuss aspects of art history and evaluate your own place in the history of creative exploration.

What skills will I develop?

The range of activities in which you will participate and the approach that you will learn to take will help you to develop a wide range of valuable creative skills including:
Observation, visual memory, special awareness, tactile skills, colour sense, self motivation and research skill
